BIAB vs Acrylics: An Honest Look at What Saves Your Natural Nails

If you have ever had a set of acrylics removed only to find your natural nails paper-thin, sore, and bendy like cellophane, you know that quiet panic. You promise yourself you will never touch enhancements again, wait three months for them to grow back out, and then break a nail opening a drink can and find yourself right back at square one.

That endless cycle is why we brought BIAB (Builder in a Bottle) to our Beau Bassin nail studio. Once clients switch to BIAB, we have never had a single one ask to go back to traditional acrylics.

Why Acrylics Leave Your Nails So Wrecked

Because acrylic forms a rigid plastic shell, technicians must file down your natural nail’s surface with coarse grit to create grip. When you bump an acrylic nail against a door, it doesn’t give—it leverages against your real nail bed, causing tears and lifting.

What Makes BIAB Completely Different

  • Gentle Surface Prep: We do not sand your natural nail down to paper. A light sponge buff and cuticle prep is all it takes.
  • Shock Absorption: When you hit your hand, BIAB flexes slightly with your natural nail plate rather than ripping it off.
  • You Keep Your Own Nails: We build an apex over your natural nail. As it grows, the gel shields it from snapping. After three months, you are rocking your own natural long nails with a protective gel coat.
  • No Smelly Fumes: BIAB is practically odorless and cures under low-heat LED lamps.

Maintenance: How Often for Infills?

We recommend booking an infill every 3 weeks. We gently buff down the top color layer, rebalance the apex at the cuticle line with fresh builder gel, and apply fresh color, French tips, or chrome art.
